June Admissions Increase by 37%

The less than impressive Irish summer has again churned out another solid season at the ROI box office with cinema admissions remaining mostly on par with 2010 and looking upwards for the latter half of 2011.
June was particularly strong, just under 1.4 million Irish movie-goers went to their local cinema in June 2011 compared to just over 1 million in June 2010.

Audiences rushed out to see a diverse range of movies from the action-packed origins story X-Men: First Class, to the super-human epic The Green Lantern, to the slap-stick comedy stylings of Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher to the surprise mega-hit of the summer Bridesmaids, now the No. 1 movie at the ROI box office.

Cinema advertising delivers a deeper level of engagement for brands than any other advertising medium. According to past studies, most TV viewers say they either leave the room or change the channel when the ad break is on (FAME Ireland 2009), yet the nature of the cinema environment ensures that only 8% of cinemagoers actively avoid advertising there (Initiative Media UK).

Moreover, 38% of 15-34 year olds say they go to the cinema every month (ROI Film Monitor 2010) and all younger demographics list it as their first choice leisure activity, ahead of playing computer games and watching TV. Furthermore, 75% of 35-44 year olds go to the cinema and 20% of 35-44 year olds are classed as heavy-cinemagoers, going to the cinema once a month or more, further illustrating that cinema continues to appeal to every genre of audience, from Oscars to action to animation.

Attention All Closet Twi-hards!

Teens, tweens and twenty-something’s alike have been racing to the cinema in their hundreds of thousands to get their yearly fix of undead-canine action, love and drama that is ‘The Twilight Saga’ and 2011 is set to be no different.
The fourth instalment in the franchise, ‘Breaking Dawn: Part 1’ releases nationwide on Friday November 18th just in time to catch the pre-Christmas rush in cinemas nationwide.

The first 3 movies in the franchise have taken the box office by storm in previous years and 2011’s instalment, Part 1 of the epic finale movie, looks likely follow in their box office-breaking footsteps.
Now one of the most successful book-to-movie franchises of all time, this final instalment, split into 2 movies, will most certainly provide the perfect opportunity to directly target the young female audience in the run up to Christmas 2011.
